We have five artists from NY and LA in Knoxville, TN for a contemporary art exhibition, featuring novel techniques and mediums that blend to create a Promethean menagerie. The name of the game for Nouveau is “hypercontemporary” – art that pierces through the seemingly aesthetic collapse of this decade to formulate new and diverse visions. Yigal Ozeri’s photorealism paintings strike new technological realms by incorporating AI compositions; Vita Kari’s tapestries play upon pop culture iconography to form pixelated textiles; Stanley Casselman takes a tongue-in-cheek approach to abstraction in his overt references to Richter; while James Gortner and Basmat Levin create dreamlike collage-paintings to visualize new conceptions of memory.
