ZIVA WAGNER EPSTEIN

Ziva Wagner Epstein began weaving over forty years ago and has been a part of her ever since. She has traveled the world learning traditional weaving techniques that serve as a basis for modern creations.

The work of weaving turns to magic when the lone thread becomes trapped in the web of warp and weft, getting order and stability. In her work, she explores how much the individual thread maintains its identity and presence in the emerging fabric. She strives to explore how much freedom she can give the tread and still maintain the integrity of the fabric. Those parts of the fabric where the individual threads are free arouse wonder, both during the weaving and in the finished product. The place of the individual thread in the fabric, and the freedom of the threads, allow me to build a story in the fabric, the ideas, and the feelings that she wants to express through her work.
