ADÁN LÓPEZ ALEMÁN

SPANISH EXPRESSIONIST

APRIL 4 – MAY 2025

FIRST FRIDAY,  5–9 PM

ATTIRE: SPARKLING BLACK AND WHITE

Artist will paint live in the gallery during the opening.

López’s artistic process is defined by a punctum, a certain moment in which the energetic presence of the person portrayed becomes inevitable. “The Collision,” as he calls it, is the point at which the canvas transforms from mere pigment to a person with a soul present in his studio.

This collision may occur throughout any part of the creative process, unexpectedly bringing life to the painting from the first brush stroke to the final detail. This process is intuitive like that of historic ecstatic painters who channeled innate spiritual energy.

When painting portraits, López transcends beyond technique and the physical qualities of a face, but seeks to depict the soul. Transmitting the emotion and feeling, López fosters a profound connection between the model, the artist, and the viewer.

ABOUT

Adán López Alemán was born in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, 1988. He was raised with a creative spark in his genes, passed down through the generations of an artistic family—his father was a muralist, and grandparents sculptors and painters.

Despite his artistic background, López was advised to study engineering as a more sustainable career path, so he trained as an industrial designer at the University of Las Palmas. Although he considered art to be a hobby in his free time, López continued training in both painting and sculpture at the prestigious Luján Pérez school.

López opened a design studio in Valencia for several years, but in 2017 decided to take a chance on his adventure as a professional painter. From that moment, his growth as an artist has been fast-paced and flourishing, thanks to the acceptance that his work received from the public.

López has exhibited at Art Basel Miami, SOFA Chicago, Galerie Alaux in Valencia and been profiled in international publications like Club del Deportista. His work is in the private collections of footballers Achraf Hakimi, Jorge Resurrección, and Munir Mohamedi. Recently, he was honored with the “Estrella de la Cultura 2024” of the Canary Islands.
