PAUL PAIEMENT

Paiement combines the Romantic with the Modernist. He challenges the fast-paced, synthetic, and technologically driven culture by reconnecting with the vast and ever changing nature. Like Henry David Thoreau in “Walden,” he seeks a slower, more deliberate life. Despite seeming separate from nature, he emphasizes that humans are indeed ‘nature.’ Paiment’s paintings “hybridize” the inorganic or ‘man made’ synthetic elements of culture (ie. architecture via linear perspective) with the organic elements of the natural world.

Paiement has shown internationally at such institutions as The Laguna Art Museum; The Centré d’Art Contemporain, France; The Center for International Culture, Italy; The Armory Center for the Arts, CA; and the Oxford Castle, England. His work has been featured in publications including Art in America, Artillery, ARTnews, Artforum, and more.
