ANN MARIE AURICCHIO

Addressing the landscape through a psychological lens, Ann Marie Auricchio accesses the intangible space of our emotions, reflected within our surroundings. Born in Queens, New York, she now works in New Orleans, bringing viscerality into her paintings so that they are places of energy and confrontation rather than simply contemplation. Tumultuous compositions burst forth, tumbling and dripping off the traditional square canvas form.

These internal and external turbulences find form through geological and atmospheric metaphors, reflected through abstract gestures. By weaving elements of vegetation, water, and fire into abstract fields, she creates tension between recognition and disorientation. Glimmers of figuration lead the eye to interpret a branch here, or perhaps a waterfall, or simply a frenetic brushstroke, challenging representational painting.

Auricchio earned her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and has attended residencies at the Joan Mitchell Center and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.

Her work has been exhibited nationally in both galleries and institutional spaces such as White Columns, NY, the Painting Center, NY, the Alexandria Museum, LA, and the Contemporary Art Center, New Orleans, and upcoming in Fall 2025 at the Wiregrass Museum, AL.
