JUAN MANUEL ROZAS
Juan Manuel Rozas is a Miami-based multidisciplinary artist, born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. A self-taught painter and musician, he has been part of Miami’s creative landscape since the mid-1990s. Rozas has spent years painting large-scale works, refining his understanding of surface, scale, and spatial energy. His fresco-inspired techniques, using micro-cement, pigments, and charcoal, blend street art influences with abstraction. These seamlessly translating the wall into canvas pieces to create tactile and emotionally resonant works.
His studio work draws inspiration from Miami’s natural landscape, its flora, clouds, and sea which continue his exploration of texture, movement, and atmosphere in both public and private spaces, inviting viewers to reflect on their connection to nature and its spiritual significance in our lives.
Rozas’ original paintings and recent work explores the last Uturunko tiger, a traditional folk tale from the northern regions of Argentina. It tells the story of a young man that can transform into a leopard/tiger-like being during full moon nights. He used the old skin of a leopard brought by people marching down south with an Inca army during the time just before their contact with the Spaniards. Rozas reinterprets the tale in visual form with fresco-inspired techniques.
His vibrant, floral murals can be seen at prominent locations throughout Miami. In recent years, Juan Manuel Rozas has utilized fine art to collaborate with HGTV, in 2016 he completed a four-story mural in Mexico City for A&E’s International Down Syndrome Day. He has painted murals in New York, Atlanta, Miami, Asheville, Knoxville, and more. He has collaborated with groups like Game Seven, a subsidiary of Meta, Oasis Wynwood, Amli Midtown, Pura Vida Hialeah, the “W” Sobe, The Standard Midtown, Knoxville’s Dogwood Arts, Lilienthal Gallery and more.
